Project details
Regent Cinema creates a new entertainment destination for Redcar, replacing the former cinema with a contemporary building inspired by its historic predecessor. Designed to support the town's wider regeneration, the project celebrates the site's heritage while providing modern facilities that encourage people back into the town centre.
For generations, Regent Cinema played an important role in Redcar’s cultural life. Following the closure and demolition of the original building, the project provided an opportunity to create a modern entertainment venue that acknowledges its heritage while responding to the needs of today’s audiences.
The new three-screen cinema takes inspiration from the original Art Deco building, incorporating architectural references and interior detailing that celebrate the site’s history without replicating it. Alongside the cinema screens, the building includes a café bar with views across the seafront, creating a welcoming environment that encourages visitors to spend time in the town throughout the day and into the evening.
Designed as part of Redcar’s wider regeneration programme, the cinema has become an important landmark that reconnects the seafront with the town centre, creating a contemporary venue that supports culture, leisure and community life.
